30 years ago 2,000,000 of Cambodia’s people were massacred during the Pol Pot Khmer Rouge regime. Now these gentle, friendly and hard working people are rebuilding their country. Not only are they the most delightful people, they are also blessed with the magical jungle temple complex of Angkor Wat. These are just two of the many reasons to come here.

But for perspective, choosing these holidays has a greater meaning. Today Cambodia is rebuilding yet it is a poor country and there are those who exploit through child prostitution. The people are regularly exploited by big businesses which can make huge profits from paying small wages. Big hotel companies can take the income away from small Cambodian family owned guest houses such as the ones we support. The Volunteer ‘business’ itself is also part of this exploitation with some very big players with many other business ventures in tow, now cashing in and in the position to easily wipe out small services such as our own. So even in supporting this volunteer and ‘holidays’ facility you are helping support the people who need to make a living income rather than those who are simply adding another avenue for increasing their already big profits.

In 2009 we discovered the totally unexpected magic of Cambodia, and instantly fell in love with it. Here is the home of the ancient jungle temple city of Angkor Wat, a truly Indiana Jones style adventure. If you want to give volunteering a go, we can arrange for you to Teach English at a Buddhist Temple school or village school – a great way to add experience to your CV - or generally help with projects that improve the lives and provide a future for children, orphans or those with disabilities. This may mean helping to provide wells in rural villages or simply delivering rice to one of the orphanages and watching the children dance. We encourage you to come here and stay while - it may transform you as it transformed us.

'Green' Projects

The 'green' project began with those who themselves were experiencing ‘difficult circumstances’ through injury, family abuse, homes lost in bushfires, loss of income, depression, indifference and rejection by family, needing to create a new life on their own, searching for inner meaning and joy in life and so on. The 'green' project aims are to create a center for the establishment of workshops, talks, presentations, courses such as Raw Plant Food Diets etc and will provide job training and jobs for disadvantaged Cambodians and even new business opportunities providing hope for those who thought there may be no answers. The aims include the establishment of an English Language School requiring additional Volunteer English Teachers. Eventually we aim to extend this project to include a self-sustainable organic 'farm'. Although our prime request is for volunteers, any other assistance is much appreciated. We need furnishings, internet access, computers etc or the premises itself. Any and all assistance is welcomed.

General Things to Know:

You need to take out travel insurance to cover your trip.

You need to discuss with your doctor about your health, appropriate vaccinations or medicines etc that may be helpful to bring with you.

You can obtain a 30 day visa on arrival at the airport. Tourist Visas are $20 USD. Business Visas are $25 USD. Prices are correct at time of writing this information.

Bring a supply of current passport photos. You will need two for your visa, or two for a gym/spa package etc.

Jetstar provide some of the cheapest fares to Cambodia from Singapore. We can advise on what we believe to be the best ways to get here. You can be met at the airport if you choose at no charge. Just let us know.

Always use bottled water to drink and for cleaning your teeth.

Accommodation at destination is included, but not airfares or transport [except free pick up at destination airport] or food [unless stated] and we will direct you to your chosen volunteer work.
